Description
This stamp commemorates the founding of Neo-Destour on March 2, 1934 during the Ksar Hellal congress, a decisive turning point which split the Tunisian national movement to infuse it with a more radical and structured dynamic. Under the leadership of Habib Bourguiba and a new generation of executives, the party moved away from the methods considered too conciliatory of the former Destour to favor mass popular mobilization and an active presence in each village in the country. This founding moment marked the beginning of an organized struggle against the protectorate, transforming the thirst for independence into a coherent political project capable of challenging the colonial authorities on the ground and internationally.
By celebrating forty years of progress (1934-1974), the Republic highlights the transition of Neo-Destour from a national liberation movement into a state party architect of the modernization of the country. During this period, political action was the driving force behind profound legislative and social reforms, such as the promulgation of the Personal Status Code and the generalization of education. This 100 millime broadcast thus consecrates the sustainability of an ideal which was able to lead the nation from resistance to sovereignty, presenting the legacy of Ksar Hellal as the basis of stability and institutional progress in contemporary Tunisia.
