This issue reproduces a 13th century stele, a precious vestige of the Hafsid era, a period of stability and major artistic renewal for Tunisia. The complex calligraphic ornamentation carved into the stone testifies to the excellence of the master craftsmen and the importance of epigraphy in the decorative and funerary arts of this dynasty.
