Description
The hybrid Brachychiton (often resulting from the cross between Brachychiton acerifolius and Brachychiton populneus or rupestris) is a very resistant Australian ornamental tree. In Tunisia, it is mainly planted for its exceptional adaptation to the Mediterranean climate, its rapid growth, its majestic silhouette and its spectacular flowering.
It is often called a "bottle tree" because its trunk widens at the base to store water, allowing it to survive long periods of drought. Its shiny green leaves provide very good shade.
It is perfectly adapted to the local climate and the lack of water, which makes it an ideal choice for urban development (street alignment) or in large gardens. It is also honored in the country's plant heritage.
