Description
This stamp highlights Canna (Canna indica), also known as Balisier or “Indian Cane”, and designated in Arabic by the term “Al-Yassara”. Native to tropical regions but perfectly acclimated to the Mediterranean climate, this perennial plant is particularly present in public gardens and urban parks throughout Tunisia. Its spectacular flamboyant red flowers and lush foliage make it a species of choice to bring a touch of exoticism and bright color to Tunisian landscapes, particularly during the summer months when it resists the heat well.

Although it is mainly appreciated for its ornamental qualities in Tunisia, Canna has unique characteristics: its seeds, extremely black and hard, are sometimes used in local crafts for making jewelry or percussion instruments. The representation of this flower on a postal figurine testifies to the successful integration of this species into the national horticultural heritage. This stamp thus celebrates the diversity of Tunisian urban flora and the adaptability of this plant which beautifies the daily living environment with its majestic presence and its vitality.
