Description
This Tunisia Post stamp for Postal Parcels illustrates a rural scene of transport of mail or goods. In the center, a man dressed in a traditional burnous advances on the back of a donkey towards a fortified village. The village, a kasbah, is located at the foot of a steep rocky mountain. The stamp is decorated with the inscriptions “Tunisia” at the top, “Parcel Postaux” at the bottom, as well as “RF” (French Republic) and a Phoenician crescent.

The scene is framed by motifs of local plants, including prickly pears on the left and agaves on the right. The nominal value “C 5” is written at the bottom right in an arch-shaped cartouche. The inclusion of this scene on a Colis Postaux stamp highlights the role of traditional transport in the Tunisian postal network. It makes this stamp a symbol of the region's rural heritage.
