Description
This stamp illustrates two species of diving ducks wintering in Tunisia. In the foreground, we recognize the male Tufted Duck, recognizable by its contrasting black and white plumage, its golden yellow eyes and its characteristic crest on the back of its head. In the background is the Common Pochard (Aythya ferina). These migratory birds find refuge during the cold season on the country's fresh or brackish water bodies, such as Lake Bizerte or the coastal sebkhas. Their presence testifies to the richness of nutrients in Tunisian lakes, essential to allow them to rebuild their strength before spring migration.
