Description
The stamp highlights “Bab El Khadra”, the “Green Door”, which owes its name to the orchards and gardens which once surrounded it. The visual shows a structure rebuilt at the end of the 19th century in a neo-Moorish style, with its battlements and horseshoe arches which frame the perspective on the city. It symbolizes the transition between the old city and the new suburbs, recalling the historical importance of the ring of gates in the regulation of urban life and the deep link which once united the medina to its nourishing agricultural environment.
