Description
The Great Tit (Parus major) is a species of passerine bird in the Paridae family.

This tit, the most common and largest of the Eurasian tits, is easily identifiable thanks to its black crown and tie, as well as its plumage where yellow dominates. Sexual dimorphism is not very marked.

Present in almost all of Europe, a large part of Asia and northwest Africa, it occupies many types of habitats, whether forests, taigas, parks or gardens, as long as there are trees. It establishes its nest in a tree or wall cavity, but also occupies nest boxes. If the species is generally sedentary and faithful to its territory from year to year, partial migrations take place in certain years, probably due to overpopulation. Gregarious, it lives in small groups outside the breeding season.

She has a varied diet. If it is mainly insectivorous during the reproduction period, it is rather granivorous the rest of the year. This is how she assiduously frequents bird feeders, where she looks for seeds, mainly sunflower seeds: when she finds one, she sits on a nearby branch to taste it, then returns. The Great Tit and its young are in turn part of the diet of certain birds (European Sparrowhawk and Great Spotted Woodpecker in particular) and mammals (European Weasel and Domestic Cat in particular).
