Description
This stamp highlights a “rush mat” (H'sir), a flagship of traditional craftsmanship in Nabeul. The illustration shows a carpet with rhythmic geometric patterns of red, green and black, often incorporating a prayer niche (mihrab) in its composition. Made from locally harvested and dyed rushes, these mats are inseparable from the aesthetics of mosques and traditional Tunisian residences. By promoting this ancestral manual know-how, Tunisia celebrates the patience of artisan basket makers and the persistence of an authentic folk art which combines simplicity of materials and decorative refinement.
