Description
This stamp of the Tunisian Republic clearly highlights the figure of a national leader, presented in bust and costume, which places the issue in the tradition of States which use the portrait of their leader as a symbol of authority and institutional continuity, particularly after independence to assert the legitimacy of the new republican power and the sovereignty of the country. The clearly legible presence of the words “Tunisian Republic” and the face value, associated with a sober and solemn layout, reinforces a message of state modernity and structured administrative organization, where the postal service becomes a vector of national unity and dissemination of the official image of the State inside and outside the territory. In the Tunisian context, such a stamp participates in the construction of a secular and republican national identity, oriented towards institutions and the centralization of power, while registering in the collective memory as a marker of the political era that it represents, circulating in the daily mail and reminding citizens of the anchoring of the young republic in the concert of modern nations.
